Vidacare Corporation Positions New Management Team for Next Stage Growth; Promotes Mark Mellin to Acting CEO, Mike Voss to COO
July 13, 2010

SAN ANTONIO – As the next step in aggressively increasing sales and growing the company’s international footprint, Vidacare Corporation has promoted Mark Mellin to Acting CEO and President and Mike Voss to the newly-created position of Chief Operating Officer. Phil Faris will move into a role that focuses his expertise on specific initiatives to increase international product adoption.

As Acting CEO, Mellin, a biotechnology industry veteran, will manage the strategic initiatives to launch this next phase of growth and positioning. As COO, Voss, will supervise all Vidacare product lines, including the EZ-IO System and the OnControl Bone Marrow and Bone Access Systems, and will work with the existing business unit teams to expand sales globally.

Faris will offer expertise on areas of specific need including international business and operational initiatives to increase product adoption. In his leadership role over the last five years, he has successfully positioned Vidacare as the leader in the field of intraosseous medicine, overseeing the company’s growth and leading the company through the commercialization and launch of three product systems.

“Vidacare Corporation has essentially revolutionized the field of intraosseous medicine with our technology platform, and I relish the challenge before us to continue to improve patient care in a number of medical applications,” commented Mellin.

“Vidacare, under the leadership of Phil Faris, has achieved many significant milestones for patients and physicians, and we look forward to continuing to pioneer the field of intraosseous medicine under Mark’s leadership,” commented William Sanger, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vidacare.

Mellin, who will continue to serve as the company’s CFO, brings a wealth of experience to the Vidacare executive team as a veteran in the biotechnology industry possessing deep expertise in mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, SEC rules and regulations and public company financial reporting. A San Antonio native for over 40 years, he currently serves as the Audit Committee Chairman of the board of directors for Rackspace Hosting, Inc. Previously, Mellin was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Ilex Oncology and managed the financial aspects of the sale of the San Antonio-based company to Genzyme Corporation for $1 billion. Prior to that, he was the managing partner of the San Antonio office of Arthur Andersen LLP. He holds a BBA in Accounting from The University of Texas and has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1984.

Voss’ 20 years of executive management experience includes most recently serving as Vice President and General Manager of the Vascular Interventions Division at Spectranetics Corporation. During his tenure there, he significantly increased sales and launched two new vascular products. He has also held managerial, marketing and sales positions with Bard Access Systems, Cordis Cardiology (a Johnson & Johnson company) and Boston Scientific. Mike holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and is a graduate of Georgia Southern University. Prior to entering the medical device industry, he served as a Captain in the U. S. Army.

Established in 2001, Vidacare Corporation is the developer of a broad technology platform that is defining the new field of intraosseous (inside the bone) medicine, with the potential to establish new standards of clinical excellence in the safe, rapid performance of medical procedures using the intraosseous space. Current applications include vascular access, emergency and disaster medicine, oncology, spinal surgery applications and regenerative medicine. Vidacare’s focus on enhancing clinical efficacy, patient safety and comfort, and reducing complications and their associated costs, has resulted in its devices becoming the recognized technology standard in their respective clinical fields. Privately held, the company is based in San Antonio, Texas, and its products are marketed in over 50 countries worldwide. www.vidacare.com
