BioBridge Global creates expert regenerative medicine advisory board
July 16, 2018

By W. Scott Bailey – Senior Reporter, San Antonio Business Journal

BioBridge Global has formed a new group of industry experts to help advance its expanding role in regenerative medicine.

San Antonio-based BioBridge Global — the nonprofit parent corporation of the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center, QualTex Laboratories and GenCure — has created a new Regenerative Medicine Advisory Board. It’s composed of industry leaders with a wide range of scientific, product development and business experience who will be tasked with helping grow one of BioBridge Global’s critical areas of business.

“We recruited these highly regarded individuals because of their deep understanding of regenerative medicine, including needs, opportunities, roadblocks and how the field may change in the future,” BioBridge Global CEO Martin Landon said.

Here is a look at the initial members of BioBridge Global’s new Regenerative Medicine Advisory Board:

  • Phil Vanek — general manager of GE Healthcare’s Cell and Gene Therapy business strategy; previously head of business development for Cell Therapy
  • Gregory Bonfiglio — founder and managing partner of Proteus LLC, an investment and advisor firm focused solely on regenerative medicine; also chairman of the Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine in Toronto
  • Dr. Kenneth Bertram — former commander of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and principal assistant for acquisition for the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command

San Antonio bioscience industry leaders have identified regenerative medicine as an area in which the Alamo City can differentiate itself. BioBridge Global has played an essential role in helping put San Antonio in the forefront of that work, and its new team of experts could be key to identifying more opportunities for growth.

BioBridge Global provides a wide range of blood, tissue and cellular source materials, products and services through its three operating entities. They include blood and tissue collection, processing and distribution, biological testing, process engineering and biomanufacturing.
