START signs collaborative agreement with MEDIAN Technologies
December 3, 2013

By Mike W. Thomas, San Antonio Business Journal

South Texas Accelerated Research Therapeutics (START) has signed a three-year collaborative agreement with MEDIAN Technologies, a medical imaging software company based in France.

Under the terms of the agreement, START will use MEDIAN’s software application for image interpretation and management during Phase 1 oncology trials conducted by START. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

START, with centers located in San Antonio and Madrid, Spain, conducts one of the world’s largest Phase I medical oncology programs and puts more than 400 patients per year in Phase 1 trials.

“This innovative imaging technology nicely complements our web-based real-time delivery of clinical trial data and will assist our clinical trial sponsors to objectively verify responses in real-time and, we believe, help many of them identify opportunities for breakthrough designation,” says Dr. Anthony Tolcher, director of clinical research for START. “Imaging has a growing significance in Phase I oncology trials, so adding LMS to our arsenal of innovative tools will provide sponsors with valuable data that will support not only the early phase decision making, but also help lay the groundwork for follow-on, late phase trials.”
