San Antonio-based medical-device company Vidacare Corp. has received regulatory approval for expanded use of its products in Europe.

Vidacare's EZ-IO Intraosseous Infusion System can now be used for the delivery of drugs and fluids for up to 72 hours, up from a maximum of 24 hours. The device, an alternative to intravenous therapy, also can now be inserted in the thigh bone of pediatric patients.

Separately, Vidacare's OnControl System, which helps clinicians obtain bone marrow biopsies, can now be used to perform bone biopsies anywhere in the body where it is medically necessary.

The company's technology platform is based on battery-powered drivers that look and function like small drills and needles that give physicians access to the space inside bones.
